Accommodation

Finding a place to meet your budget is never a problem in Nepal and you can sleep well from $US 7 to $US 100. Similarly in Pokhara and Kathmandu there is a range of international cuisine to suit every palate.

Recommended hotels

Kathmandu

  • Summit Hotel: if you want quiet, cleanliness and comfort before your race, the Summit is recommended. Roger, the race director is also the Summit director, so be assured of a good rate and being well looked after.
  • Budget: there are a whole heap of reasonable budget hotels in Thamel. If you need more advice, please contact us.

Pokhara

  • Hotel Barahi is where the registration is, where the race starts, and the location of the prize giving too. Reviews here. we have special rates arranged for a limited number of rooms until 20th December so book early.
  • Three Sisters Adventure Trekking: the Three Sisters are located to the north of the lake about 1km from the start, but at the much quieter end of the lake. They have good, clean accommodation around the $15 level. If they have no space left they’ll help you find something nearby.

Travel from Kathmandu to Pokhara

It’s easy. From Kathmandu you can come to Pokhara on public bus (not recomended), (cramped) micro-bus, tourist bus, private vehicle or even fly. It takes less than 6 hours and $US 5 with the slowest method up to around $US 90 to fly one-way. We’ll arrange a comfortable bus ride for $15 from leaving Kathmandu early on the 31st to arrive around 2pm in Pokhara. Let us know if you want a seat reserving via this form.

International travel

Reaching Kathmandu is easier than ever. It’s connected via hubs in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangkok and the Gulf. Needless to say, the earlier you book the better.

Make a vacation of it: what else to do in Nepal?

This race is just one day, albeit a long one. What to do with the rest of your time in Nepal? The weather is dry, the skies clear and daytime temperatures are around 17°C (63°F). With a few days, a week or more, there is much to do:

  • Trek: Annapurna base-camp is a close by and an amazing 6-7 day trek.
  • Trail running: You could fly up to Jomsom in Mustang, and run to holy Muktinath and back. There are many other trails with lodges meaning you can travel light. Those experienced at altitude could run or walk the famed Annapurna circuit as Lizzy Hawker did in January 2011 taking just five days.
  • Adventure sports: Mountain biking, rafting, kayaking, bungy jumping (world’s 3rd largest), paragliding.
  • Culture: Kathmandu valley offers the globe’s highest density of UNESCO World heritage sites, Kathmandu and Patan Durbar squares, Pashupathinath, Bouddha and on it goes – try it as a culture run! (http://bit.ly/culture-run)
  • Nature: It’s all around you but Chitwan offers an immensity of wildlife and jungle fun.
  • Spiritual: Meditation retreats and fantastic & low cost massages come to mind.
  • Post race relax: There are several nice hotels outside Pokhara. Highly recommended are Tiger Mountain and Begnas Lake Resort.
